In 1996, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher visited Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, the same place where almost 50 years earlier, Winston Churchill delivered his famous “Iron Curtain” speech. During her visit, Thatcher gave a speech that still has relevance today, especially in light of the continuing threat of nuclear weapons by North Korea.

Political activist from Maldives returns to Fulton

A Westminster College graduate fighting for election reform in the Maldives returns to the Fulton campus this week to discuss her political activism.

Shauna Aminath is a 2008 Westminster graduate and a native of the Maldives. She was arrested in the Indian Ocean republic after the 2012 ouster of President Mohamed Nasheed.

Aminath was a deputy undersecretary in Nasheed's administration. She now works to restore the democratic elections that have been replaced by parliamentary votes.

Talks continue about resuming rail service between Mexico and Fulton

Conversations about reestablishing service on the 27-mile rail line between Mexico and Fulton have been ongoing for the past decade. The line has been out of service since the late 1990’s when it failed to generate enough business to stay running. In 2007 the project became more feasible when new owner Mike Williams showed an interest in developing the line. President of the Fulton Area Development Corporation Bruce Hackmann says progress has been made but many details of the project remain unsolved.

Fulton High School to adjust scheduling system
