The University of Missouri took part in the National Roll Call project, holding a moment of silence to honor American service men and women this afternoon.

Deatons host Patriot Day barbecue on the quad

This year in honor of Patriot Day, Chancellor Brady Deaton and Dr. Anne Deaton hosted a barbecue on the quad.

MU Senior Matthew Beckum is in MU’s ROTC program and says they appreciate the Chancellor honoring the university’s veterans.

“We’re here to show our support, to let our presence be known and to congratulate and thank all the veterans that are here attending with us.” Beckum says.

Beckum says he and his classmates graduating this year are looking forward to starting their service.

Candlelight Vigil calls for peace and unity after 9/11 attacks

Central Missourians gathered outside the Boone County courthouse Tuesday night to remember the thousands of victims who lost their lives in the September 11 attacks in 2001.

Mid-Missouri Peaceworks and the Islamic Center of Central Missouri collaborated to put on the event that called for peace and unity. Ruth Schaefer, coordinator of the event, says the candlelight vigil drew about 100 participants, many of whom are involved in local peace organizations.
