Membership FAQ
Thank you for your interest in supporting KBIA! Here are answers to some of our most frequently asked questions. Not finding an answer to your question? Give us a call at (573) 882-3431 or email us at kbia@kbia.org
Basic Membership:
How many pledge drives do you have each year?
We have shortened our bi-annual drives from 10 days to 6 days. They happen every Spring and Fall. If we don’t quite reach our goal or are in specific need of new equipment, we will have a one-day-drive. Contributions during this time are crucial to our budget and help pay for popular programming.
Is there a minimum contribution to be considered an active donor to KBIA?
Basic membership begins at a one –time gift of $35. There are many ways to give, however, from donating your used car to payroll deduction. If you make your gift a sustaining one you can spread your payments out over the year.
When will I be asked to renew my support?
We ask you to renew your support once every 12 months. You’ll receive your first renewal request a few months before the 12 month period is over. The sooner you respond, the fewer reminders we will send. If you’re a sustaining member, your account renews automatically.
My employer participates in the employee matching gift program. How do I enroll?
Simply obtain a matching gift form from your human resources department, fill it out and send it to KBIA.
Why did I receive another renewal notice when I already sent my contribution?
If your contribution and our renewal notice cross in the mail, please accept our apologies and our sincerest thanks for renewing your support. This happens when your contribution gets posted to our database after we’ve mailed renewal notices for that month. It could be that your last contribution was counted as an additional gift instead of a renewal. Occasionally an extra letter is the result of a duplicate file or other issue with our database.
Will KBIA sell or share my mailing address, phone number or email address?
No, KBIA does not sell or exchange your personal information with anyone.
How to contact Our Membership Office:
If you don’t find the information you need in the questions and answers below, please give us a call at (573) 882-3431. between 8am – 5pm, Mon-Fri, or send an email to knottsp@missouri.edu We will return all after-hours voicemails and emails within one business day.
Sustaining Members:
How do I tell if I’m a sustaining member?
You can email Paige Knotts, our Membership Coordinator at knottsp@missouri.edu During Membership Drives, the KBIA staff works as efficiently and quickly as possible, but there might be some delay in getting back to you because of the volume of correspondence with members.
Sustaining members donate to KBIA monthly on their credit or debit card, on an ongoing basis, until notified to cancel. Sustainers also do not receive renewal notices from KBIA! If you think you are a sustainer but are receiving renewal notices, please let us know so that we can resolve the issue; your pledge may be an installment pledge rather than a sustaining pledge, or we could have a duplicate account or email for you.
Are my monthly donations tax-deductible?
Your contribution to KBIA is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. In January, KBIA will send you written confirmation (tax receipt) of your contributions during the previous calendar year, via email or mail. Please consult your tax advisor or attorney for information about specific situations.
How can I update my credit card number or expiration date for my monthly sustaining gift?
There are two ways to update your account:
1) You can call KBIA at (573) 882-3431 and ask for someone in our Membership Office
2) If you received a letter requesting updated information, you may use the form and enclosed envelope to respond.
If my card expiration date changed but my card number did not, why do I have to give my card number again?
KBIA adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to handling of donor credit and debit card account information. Payment Card Industry (PCI) regulations require that KBIA not store actual credit card information on its computers, so when you provide your new expiration date KBIA must also re-enter the card information to update it.
I’d like to increase or change the monthly amount I have been giving.
Send an email to knottsp@missouri.edu, or call (573) 882-3431, and we’ll update your pledge to reflect the new amount you want charged monthly!
I’d like to make a one-time contribution in addition to my monthly Sustaining gift.

How do I request my annual Thank You gift?
KBIA is pleased to be able to offer one thank you gift per calendar year to our sustaining members. We are so grateful for your support; we do ask that you limit your thank you gift request to one per year to save the station purchasing and mailing expenses. Before each Membership Drive, KBIA contacts (via email and mail) Sustaining Members eligible for a gift with information about how to choose one. To find out if you are eligible for a thank you gift at this time, please email kbia@KBIA.org or call our Membership Office at (573) 882-3431.
How can I cancel?
You can stop or suspend your monthly giving at any time. Just send an email to kbia@KBIA.org or call our Membership Office at (573) 882-3431. Please be sure to let us know your name and address so we can confirm we are canceling the correct pledge, and if you email or leave a voicemail, be sure you receive a message back from us confirming that we have stopped your monthly contributions.
Do I need to call in during the Membership Drive to renew my pledge?
Nope! As a sustaining member your membership is ongoing, and automatically renews each year. If you do call in to the Membership Drive, you might be creating a duplicate pledge for yourself!
Thank you for supporting KBIA!
