Actor Encourages Voter Participation
ListenActor Matt Damon called in to the KBIA studios to encourage voters to head to the polls on Election Day. Damon supports Barack Obama for president but says he hopes all registered voters will cast their ballots regardless of whom they support. Candidate Interviews: State Treasurer's Office ListenThe state treasurer seat is open this year due to Sarah Steelman's unsuccessful bid for governor. State Senator Brad Lager is campaigning on the Republican side and declined the request for an interview. MO to Vote on Increase of Gambling Tax
ListenMissouri voters are considering a ballot measure that would remove the state’s gambling “loss limit” and increase the gambling tax. Supporters of the measure says this could generate millions of dollars for Missouri schools. But as with most ballot measures- there’s some disagreement. KBIA’s Robbie Berlin reports.  

Solar PanelsMO to Vote on Renewable Energy Requirement ListenA November ballot measure would require Missouri’s investor-owned electric utilities to generate 15 percent of their electricity through renewable sources by 2021. Missouri’s three investor-owned utilities are divided in the responses to the proposal. KBIA’s Catherine Wolf takes a look at what the ballot measure would require if passed.



English only amendmentMO to Vote on English Only Amendment ListenMost people in Missouri speak English. Currently, a state statute declares English the common language, but that has no legal bearing. In November residents will vote whether only English can be spoken at certian functions. KBIA's Maureen McCollum has more on both sides of the issue.

Hulshof Clinches GOP Gubernatorial Nomination Listen Outgoing 9th District U.S. Representative Kenny Hulshof says that, after winning his primary battle against State Treasurer Sarah Steelman, he's ready to take his campaign for governor to every corner of Missouri. Sara Wittmeyer was at Hulshof's victory party Tuesday night in Columbia and has this report.
