Josey Herrera

Student Producer

Josey Herrera identifies as a nerd first and foremost. As an undergraduate student at the Missouri School of Journalism, Herrera is constantly at work as KBIA advanced reporter and on assisting with production with KBIA's Views of the News. On the side, Herrera also studies women’s and gender studies and political science. 

Herrera is also devoted to the sport of roller derby, better known there as Josie PulHitsHer (#305). Originally from Miami, Fla., Herrera is now in deep adoration of the Midwest.

Anti-death penalty vigils held in Missouri on eve of Rousan execution

Members of Missourians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty held a vigil Tuesday, April 22, 2014, on the eve of William Rousan's execution.

The state of Missouri has carried out its fourth execution this year. Just past midnight, William Rousan was executed for the 1993 murder of a 62-year-old woman in southeast Missouri. He was also convicted of killing the woman’s husband in a plan to steal their cows.

Columbia receives grant to help fix historic homes

  The City of Columbia has received a grant to help fix up historic properties.

Columbia holds about 140 officially recognized historic properties and many other unofficial historic homes. With the new grant from the state, city planner Rachel Bacon said the city’s preservation commission has found a way help property owners who are intimidated by updating their homes: A do-it-yourself seminar series.
