Columbia Fire Department responds to fire at Jefferson Middle School

The Columbia Fire Department, administrators and electrical engineers were on the scene of an electrical fire at Jefferson Middle School in Columbia Monday morning. 

According to Columbia Public Schools Community Relations Director Michelle Baumstark, the fire occurred on the exterior north side of the building. There was no strucutral damage.

Jefferson Middle School was already closed for the day due to hazardous road conditions. More information will be available Monday afternoon.

UM Curators focus on science education for 2014

The University Of Missouri System Board Of Curators is emphasizing science education and research as a top priority for 2014. The board discussed a proposal for $51 million to help boost the number of students educated in STEM fields – that’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math – by investing in facilities, infrastructure and top-of-the-line equipment.

Menu Courey's father welcomes UM investigation, but focused on the future

Mike Menu and Lynn Courey, the parents of former MU swimmer Sasha Menu Courey, have set up the foundation Sashbear.org to raise awareness about Borderline Personality Disorder. Mike Menu spoke to KBIA this week.

The father of former MU swimmer Sasha Menu Courey says he's glad to see the University of Missoui's planned investigation of the campus's handling of his daughter's mental health struggles and the events surrounding her death. But he says he wants to focus on moving forward. Mike Menu and Lynn Courey have set up the Sashbear Foundation to raise awareness about their daughter's story and the condition of Borderline Personality Disorder.

CPD starts investigation, UM Curators mull inquiry in alleged assault of MU swimmer

The Columbia Police Department confirmed Monday it will start investigating the alleged 2010 sexual assault by University of Missouri football players of former MU swimmer Sasha Menu Courey.

After the alleged assault, Menu Courey was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, and she committed suicide in June 2011.
