17-year-old missing in Perche Creek [UPDATE: Body found]

UPDATE: Rescue workers have recovered the body of a 17-year-old boy who went underwater in a creek near Columbia while swimming with friends.

The Columbia Missourian reports that Missouri State Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Paul Reinsch says the boy's body was recovered around 11 a.m. Friday.

Reinsch says authorities were contacting the boy's family before releasing his name.

Boone County fire Capt. Martina Pounds says local, county and state workers searched for the boy until about 11 p.m. Thursday and resumed the search Friday morning.

ORIGINAL POST: Rescue workers are searching for a 17-year-old boy who went underwater in a creek near Columbia and didn't resurface.

Boone County authorities say the boy's friends notified authorities last night that their friend was missing at Perche Creek near Cooper's Landing, a marina near Columbia.

The Columbia Missourian reports Boone County fire Capt. Martina Pounds says local, county and state workers searched for the boy until about 11:00pm Thursday night and the search will continue on Friday.
