Enrollment at the University of Missouri-Columbia has again topped 34,000.

The university said today that it began fall semester classes with 34,111 students, down 144 students from the record high set in the 2012-2013 school year.  The freshman class of 6,227 students is MU's second largest behind last year's record of 6,560.

That comes as enrollment at Missouri State University is also up.  The university said today that the fall semester opened with 19,415 students at the Springfield campus, a 3.1 percent increase over the first day of last school year.  Those numbers could mean record enrollment for the university as long as enrollment remains steady through the twentieth day of classes, when an official census is taken.
