The August primary in photos

Republican Vicky Hartzler was cool as a cucumber before the results came in. She went on to win her party's nomination for the District 4 US House seat.

While other candidates were giving victory or concessions speeches, republican Lance Robbins had to wait until the very end to be sure. He ended up losing the Counter Commissioner nomination by just 59 votes to Dan Bormann.

Republican Don Bormann took his party's nomination after a neck-and-neck race against Lance Robbins. Shortly before the votes were tallied he mused on the best part about that night: no more campaigning in the hot summer sun!

Senator Claire McCaskill calling supporters shortly before voting ended. Today she expressed support for Amendment 2, the so-called religious rights amendment.

For most of the evening, this is what supporters saw: an empty stage and a big Steelman banner. Steelman didn't show up for her watch party until results had been coming in for some time.

There she is! At about 9:30 Steelman shows up. The election was called not long afterward and she conceded, throwing her support behind Todd Akin
KBIA doesn't have much in the way of photojournalists, but we've got some smart reporters with some pretty smart smartphones! Our news team spent most of the night in the field with the candidates as they waited for election results to come in and they had their twitter accounts fired up the whole time.
