Federal and state authorities are investigating the abduction of a 6-year-old Jefferson City boy found shot to death Tuesday in Cape Girardeau in an apparent murder-suicide.

Police found 6-year-old Markell Beasley and 40-year-old Demetrius Beasley, of St. Louis, dead of gunshot wounds in a house after someone flagged down officers.

Capt. Doug Shoemaker of the Jefferson City Police Department told The Southeast Missourian the FBI, state and local law enforcement agencies are assisting in the investigation. He declined further comment.

Cole County authorities issued a warrant Tuesday for Demetrius Beasley and charged him with kidnapping Markell. Jefferson City police earlier issued an endangered child advisory for Markell and said they were seeking Demetrius Beasley, who had a previous relationship with the child's mother but isn't the child's biological father.
