Boone County Clerk sees increased voter turnout

Austin Federa

Boone County Clerk Wendy Noren says voter turnout has been impressive in today's primary election. As of 12:30 this afternoon, more than 12,000 voters had turned out to vote,  which is approximately 13% of active voters in the county. Noren expects that number will rise to 25,000 votes by the time polls close tonight at 7pm.

In the April municipal election, about half as many voters turned out. Noren says more people are interested in this year's ballot than ever seen before. Noren continued to say she has seen more people selecting nonpartisan ballots too. Fortunately, she says, the county anticipated the increase, and has not started running out of nonparisan ballots at any polling locations. She says other county clerks she's spoken too have also seen an increased turnout level so far.
