Words Travel: Author Ibtisam Barakat talks about her latest project, a children’s story for the Arab world, and beyond.

Ibtisam Barakat is a Palestinian writer who lives in Columbia Missouri and participates in many international writing and arts programs.

Her first book was a memoir called “Tasting the Sky” that told the story of growing up in Palestine. Barakat’s latest project is a children’s book written in Arabic, published by an organization in Ramallah, where the author spent much of her childhood.

The book just won an award from Sweden’s Anna Lindh Foundation – it aims to build intercultural communication between countries of the Mediterranean, including 43 countries in Europe, the Middle East, Africa.

Barakat was in KBIA studio recently and talked with us about her latest project. Here’s an excerpt from the conversation. We began by asking her about the award from the Anna Lindh Foundation.
