Columbia living windows boosts ecnomy

The District hosts its annual Living Windows festival Friday night in Columbia.

By Nick Gass (Columbia, Mo.)

Approximately 20 downtown businesses will participate in the Living Windows event in downtown Columbia Friday night. Carrie Gartner, The District’s executive director, said keeping shoppers downtown reflects the trend to go local.

“We’ve noticed that a lot of people are shopping local, specifically shopping in The District, because they want to support the local economy. And that’s a great thing to hear,” said Gartner.

Gartner also said events like this mean more than just money for local businesses.

“A lot of it is shopping and meeting friends for a drink or dinner. But a lot of it is getting that connection with people throughout town,” Gartner added.

This year’s event is Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m.
