Larrell Banks, 18, of Columbia was arrested early Monday morning for shooting and killing a man on North Eighth Street Sunday afternoon. The incident is the latest in a string of shootings in Columbia. Police spokesperson Latisha Stroer says police are increasing patrolling in Columbia to try and prevent further shootings.
“We’ve been doing the proactive patrols since the 20th of February. It was due to the shootings that occurred. We had 11 shootings in 28 days,” Stroer said.
Sunday’s victim was Lamont Sargent, 39, who died later that day. Stroer says police are unsure if Sunday’s incident is related to any of the previous shootings in the area. Police are still investigating the incident.
