Columbia Public Works Department discusses condition of city roads

Columbia is considering fixing up some of the city’s major street problems. Due to this year’s mild winter, Columbia has 400 thousand dollars leftover from its snow-removal budget.

The Public Works Department held the first in a series of five town hall meetings to discuss the condition of city streets. The Fifth Ward was the first to hold its meeting.

There were only three residents that attended the meeting but Jill Stedem, the Public Information Specialist for the Department, says there’s a good reason for that.

“Obviously ward five is a very new area and has a lot more newer streets in it, so there’s less problems there, which is a good thing,” Stedem said.

The Public Works Department will hold four more meetings before making any final decisions.
