Columbia Veterans Shelter Project gets $450,000 Donation

Shelter Insurance will donate $450,000 to a project to build an apartment complex and temporary homeless shelter for veterans in Columbia called Patriot Place.  

The plan is to renovate the former Deluxe Inn on Business Loop 70 East into a campus with 25 on-site apartments and a temporary homeless shelter. There will also be space for case management and support services.

The donations are going to the organization Welcome Home, which has run an emergency shelter for veterans in Columbia since 1992, The new facility will expand housing capacity for homeless Veterans from ten to 32 temporary shelter beds.

The entire project is expected to cost about $8.1 million dollars, and the group has raised more than 60 percent of the funds so far.
