This weekend is all about supporting artists and charities. Explore Art in the Park. Hop rummage sales. Or take some me-time by heading to a cocktail party or concert. Start the month of right. Here’s how:
Art in the Park (Sat-Sun, 10 a.m.)
Need something to spruce up that living room? You’ll find it at Art in the Park at Stephens Lake. This festival is more than another painting sale. Buy work from 110 artists. They’re selling it all: ceramics, fibers, glass, jewelry, mixed media, photography, sculpture, wood and, of course, paintings.
The event is free to enter, but be sure to bring cash and checks. You’ll need it after you see the art. Listen to tunes from Jeff Copeland, Losander, Ironweed and others while you shop. Or stop by the lake bridge for a wine tasting from St. James Winery. Yes!
2012 Tiger Treasures Rummage Sale (Sat, 6 a.m.)
Discover some treasures at Mizzou Football Stadium. Those Saturday morning cartoons will have to wait. Sift through donations from the MU residence halls and Greek houses. Your basement probably needs another futon anyway.
Missouri River Relief benefit rummage sale (Fri-Sat, 8 a.m.)
Make a weekend of rummaging. Items for sale include furniture, a drum set, a kayak, camping gear and more. Plus, proceeds benefit the Missouri River Relief. I’m a fan of shopping for a good cause. Dibs on the kayak.
Premiere: A Concert Series Soiree (Sat, 7 p.m.)
Celebrate the debut of the new Concert Series season with a cocktail party at the Missouri Theatre. Enter on a red carpet and enjoy six themed party areas inside. Use 21-and-up party as an excuse to bust out that summer cocktail attire.
Got a dollar? Then head to Roxy’s tonight to check out these local bands. The combination concert venue, dance club and bar opened in April. Watch out for other shows at Roxy's in their No Cover Summer Concert Series.
