CoMo Weekender: Summertime ft art, wine and plays

Beat the heat with these indoor events. Sip wine and enjoy art. Catch a musical or comedy. Go anywhere that has the A/C pumping.

PS:Gallery Summer 2012 Artists Reception (Sat, 6 p.m.)

Check out the Artists Reception at PS:Gallery on Saturday night and see work from local, regional and national artists. Chat with the artists as you peruse the artwork. With Sycamore Restaurant and Maipe Wines as co-sponsors, I’m sure you’ll enjoy some yummy treats, too.

Les Bourgeois Collector’s Series Wine Release Party & Art Show (Sat, 2 p.m.)

Head to the Blufftop Bistro at Les Bourgeois Vineyards for a taste of new vintage wine. Sample the Collector’s Series while viewing artwork. Although the event is free, you might want to walk away with a few bottles and works of art.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Sat, 7:30 p.m.)

This Broadway play didn’t win nine Tony Awards for nothing. Catch this musical comedy at the Rhynsburger Theatre on Saturday and experience a funny thing that happened yourself.

The Importance of Being Earnest (Fri, 7:30 p.m.; Sun, 2 p.m.)

Make a weekend at the Rhynsburger Theatre and see this classic Oscar Wilde comedy. Who knows? Maybe you’ll walk out of the theatre with Earnest as your new pseudonym.

James & the Giant Peach (Fri, 7 p.m.; Sat, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; Sun, 2 p.m.)

Take a shopping break at Columbia Mall and watch the TRYPS Children’s Theatre production of the Roald Dahl classic: James & the Giant Peach. It’ll have you craving those summer peaches.

CoMo Weekender is curate by Trupti Rami in hopes of enlivening those 55 hours away from the workweek. Email questions, comments or suggestions to events@kbia.org.
