On early planting

On this week’s show, we’ll hear why farmers and gardeners should hold off on planting early this year, and find out why MU is hiring fewer international scholars.

Columbia has long been a hub for science and innovation in mid-Missouri, and the international scholars working with MU have contributed a lot to that distinction. But the number of international employees that MU hires has been decreasing for the past five years. KBIA’s Sarah Redohl has the story.

And, with unseasonably warm temperatures this month, many farmers and gardeners might be inclined to plant earlier in the year. But one MU professor is warning against that. Tony Lupo is the Chair of the Department of Soil, Environmental and Atmospheric Sciences at MU. He spoke to us about the risks of  plant too early in the year.

Rehman Tungekar is a former producer for KBIA, who left at the beginning of 2014.
