With holiday decorations going up all around Columbia, GetAbout Columbia is hosting a holiday bike tour. The ‘It’s a Wonderful Ride: Holiday Lights Bicycle Tour’ will take place on December 13th at 5:30 p.m.

“We’re very excited about encouraging people to ride a bicycle for transportation on a year round basis, and so we’re just encouraging people to come out and see how much fun it can be, and also just, you know, an activity to enjoy the holidays.” GetAbout Columbia Outreach Coordinator Janet Godon said.

The ride will begin and end at Lucky’s Market and will go around Downtown Columbia, the college campuses and surrounding neighborhoods.

Lucky’s Market’s marketing manager Shay Jasper said that Lucky’s has a great relationship with GetAbout Columbia. They have sponsored GetAbout Columbia events before, and Jasper said they are excited for this bike ride.

“They needed a nice central spot in Columbia to start the race, and I said ‘you know, come on out to Lucky’s.’ And we are offering some cookies and drinks and things like that, so it was really convenient for them to start and finish the race at Lucky’s,” Jasper said.

The event will also include a best dressed cyclist contest and a best decorated bike contest. The prizes for those contests will be Lucky’s Market gift cards and bike safety gear.

The cyclists will be required to wear helmets, and all registered participants will receive a holiday gift basket that includes a bicycle taillight.
