Health Expo Offers Free Screenings in Columbia this Weekend

On Saturday the Broadway Christian Church in Columbia will be hosting the mid Missouri Health Expo.

Screenings for cholesterol, glucose, and high blood pressure are among the many tests that are being offered free to the public. The expo is designed to help all people regardless of age, income level or whether you have health insurance.

Bruce Burkett is the executive director for Hep. C Alliance, an expo sponsor.

“These tests if you do them all together will cost well over $350,” said Burkett “we are offering them for free because we know so many people are without insurance or can’t afford co-payments.”

Hepatitis C is one of the major diseases Burkett is hoping people will get a screening for.

“That’s a disease that you can have for 20 or 30 years and have no symptoms,” said Burkett. “It’s the most common blood born disease in this country. There is a cure for Hepatitis C but the only way to know you have it is to get tested."

Charles McKee, Marketing Director for Alliance R-X, is another sponsor for the event.

“It’s not just about specialty pharmacy, retail pharmacy or other profitable organizations. It's about health and wellness and things that really make us all live better day to day,” said McKee.

“This event is about first and foremost giving back to the community and providing the community with resources that they can utilize so they can further their health,” said McKee.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Walk-ins are welcome but pre-registration is suggested. You can pre register at http://www.midmohealthexpo.com/sign-up-for-your-free-health-screenings/
