The 2015-2016 MU student body has already set university records for achievement and enrollment. MU announced the total MU student enrollment is 35,050 students, a 0.3% increase from last year’s record.

MU also announced a record number of high achieving students who scored a 30 or higher on their ACT. Christian Basi, the Associate Director of the MU News Bureau said the 2013 scholarship developments have played an important role in the recruitment of high-achieving students.

“These efforts to recruit high ability students have been very successful, and we have seen a significant increase in the amount of high ability students on campus,” Basi said. “That helps to raise the bar for everyone else.”

This year’s student body is also the most diverse in university history, with 5,485 students from underrepresented groups and 2,432 international students.

“It helps every student on campus – those from underrepresented groups as well as those from the state of Missouri – to be able to interact with each other, and learn about different cultures and ways of living,” Basi said. “That adds to the rich experience that is a college career.”

Barbara Rupp is the Interim Vice Provost for enrollment management and said this year also sees a high rate of student retention, 87.1 percent.

“We are particularly happy about the fact that the retention rate is so high of this group, and that the ability indicators are so high. It shows we’re attracting some of the brightest students from our state and beyond,” Rupp said.

Rupp said that there is no indication of any changes in admission requirements, which are set by the board of curators for all four MU campuses.
