Walter Astrada, an international photojournalist, visited MU September 14, 2011, to discuss his project about violence against women.
Astrada started the project 5 years ago, and the reporting has led him to photograph Guatemala, the Congo, and most recently, India. The final stage of the project will start later this year, when Astrada covers femicide in Norway.
KBIA’s Emily Kaiser sat down with Astrada to learn more about his journalism experiences.
For his project in India, titled “Undesired,” Astrada and three other contributors won first place in the division of Issue Reporting Story-Multimedia in the 68th annual Pictures of the Year International Competition. Pictures of the Year International is a program of the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute at the Missouri School of Journalism.
