The Columbia City Council approved a measure leading to the eviction of Regency residents.

The intersection of Texas Avenue and Parkade Boulevard in Columbia will be closed early Friday for a water project. The project is set to begin at 8:00 am and will likely end that evening. Drivers in the area may experience a detour during the time of the project.

Columbia Water and Light says the water main on Texas Avenue was replaced a few months ago and tomorrow’s project is an update.

William Strawn with Columbia Water and Light says the project will improve water flow in the area. The project will also increase the amount of water that can be delivered to the area and for firefighting.

“Right now in the south end of Parkade where it touches Texas it’s still tying over to that old main which we’re doing away with. So we’ll cut that line in two and we will connect our new line that we just ran into that and that helps loop it in,” Strawn said.

The water project was divided into three phases. Friday’s update will be the completion of the project.

“We kind of break it into smaller projects. That way we’re not affecting, you know, the entire area,” Strawn said.
