A judge has ordered the operators of a closed Jefferson City funeral home to stay away from offering pre-arranged funeral contracts after claims that the home mishandled numerous others in the past.
Attorney General Chris Koster said today that the state obtained a judgment against Buescher Memorial Home, Inc. and its operators. The operators have paid nearly $285,000 in restitution to compensate 60 consumers who bought pre-need funeral contracts.
The judgment also requires the home to move five remaining contracts to a licensed pre-need funeral provider.
Accusations against the funeral home included claims that it charged for services already covered in the contract, failed to pay refunds for canceled polices and didn't itemize customer purchases.
