Job type plays role in unemployment across gender, race

The U.S. unemployment rate dropped to 8.1 percent in July, but several groups are still feeling the heat more than others. 

Economist Peter Mueser recently published a study that found that the unemployment rate is still higher for nonwhites than whites, and the gap persists among all occupations. He also found that though men and women have similar unemployment rates, women are more likely to hold jobs in fields with relatively low unemployment.
