COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — A man has pleaded guilty to disposing of a gun that was pulled before a guard fatally shot a man on New Year's Day at a Columbia restaurant.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reports that 20-year-old Jaylon Freelon, of Columbia, was sentenced Monday to five months in jail for evidence tampering and given credit for time served.
Court records say he ran off with a gun that went off at a Waffle House restaurant and wounded another man who had been fighting over the weapon with 29-year-old Matthew McMillan. Amid the tussle, a guard entered the restaurant and tried to intervene.
But the guard told police he felt threatened as people began to crowd around him and fired, killing 30-year-old Anthony Desean Warren. McMillan is charged with second-degree murder.
