The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services granted over 10 million dollars to Missouri health centers Tuesday. As part of the Affordable Care Act, the nation’s new health care law, the funds are going to five community health centers across the state. Martin Kramer is a spokesperson for the U.S. Health, Resources and Services Administration. He says the funds will allow the centers to expand their services to more people in need.
“More services like mental-behavioral health, dental or other counseling services that they may not have been able to provide before," Kramer said. "They’ll be able to increase the size and scope of their work because they’ll be able to improve their facilities.”
Family Health Center of Boone County is one of the non-profit centers that will receive more than two-and-a-half million dollars for long-term development to rebuild its clinic in Marceline. Another center based in Kirksville will receive more than 200-thousand dollars to make immediate improvements to two of its clinics in Kahoka and Edina.
