Missourians congregate to save United Methodist Camps

Missourians rallied this weekend to save the United Methodist Camp programs that were closed earlier this year

Several Missourians gathered at the Missouri Conference Center on Saturday with a mission to save the recently shut down United Methodists Camps.

Brittanee Jacobs has attended these camps since she was eight years old and was involved as a camp counselor, staff member and retreat leader. She said the camps mean a lot to those that attend, and thinks it’s important for them to stay open.

“Our four campsites are important they aren’t just places they are home for a lot of people. And we want to see them continue in some way shape or form as some type of camp. They matter," said Jacobs.

On September 5 the decision was made to close the camps due to mainly financial reasons. That led to an online petition started in October, which now has three thousand signatures.  People at the event Saturday sang songs and danced while wearing their camp t-shirts.
