The 2012 MizzouDiversity Summit ends today after 2 days. The goal was to strengthen the MU identity as a culture that values diversity.

The Civility and the MU International Community session brought four Asian presenters to Memorial Union to share their experiences as international students at MU. The Assistant Director of MU International Center, David Currey, was the facilitator of the session.

We are very concerned about creating an international friendly campus and so this session allows the opportunity to talk about that and see how we are doing and hear about some other research that’s been done on international students,” Currey says.

Assistant Professor Kenneth Wang, SEVIS Coordinator Grace Yan, Senior Bingru Han and doctoral student Haigen Huang discussed the main problems many international students face when starting school in the U.S. Students were encouraged to admit their differences, stop making assumptions and ask questions when trying to understand American culture.

International students represent nearly 6% of the MU students’ community.
