Mo. House approves bill granting it control over Capitol area
The Missouri House has voted to give lawmakers authority over space in the Capitol that includes the Hall of Famous Missourians after controversy over the induction of radio host Rush Limbaugh.
Busts of hall inductees are displayed in the third-floor Rotunda between the House and Senate chambers. Control of the space became an issue this spring when House Democrats asked the state Office of Administration not to display the Cape Girardeau native's bust.
House Majority Leader Tim Jones says the Limbaugh issue highlighted the need to clarify who has authority over the Rotunda. He says there also have been past situations involving the space.
The House approved the measure Wednesday on vote of 106-40 as an amendment to a Senate bill. The amended bill now goes back to the Senate.
