On Monday’s St. Louis on the Air, host Don Marsh talked with three legal experts about some of the latest issues of local interest pertaining to the law.Joining him for the discussion were:

  • Judge Douglas Beach, J.D., St. Louis County Circuit Court Judge, Division 6
  • William Freivogel, J.D., Professor, School of Journalism, Southern Illinois University – Carbondale
  • Mark Smith, J.D., Associate Vice Chancellor of Students, Washington University


Topics addressed by the panel include the indictment of Paul Manifort and Rick Gateson charges related to Russian interference in the Trump campaign; the U.S. Supreme Court’s arguments on gerrymandering; Alderwoman Megan Green’s efforts to block enforcement of marijuana laws; the ACLU’s requestto a U.S. District judge to limits police response to protests; St. Louis Municipal Court’s pledge to limit cash bail; Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner’s request for $1 million to investigate police involved killings; Missouri public defenders’ efforts to decline new cases after the discipline of a lawyer by the Missouri Supreme Court; and other issues.Our Legal Roundtable panelists discussed some of the latest issues pertaining to the law.St. Louis on the Air brings you the stories of St. Louis and the people who live, work and create in our region. Alex Heuer joined St. Louis Public Radio in 2012 and is the executive producer of St. Louis on the Air. Alex grew up in the St. Louis area. He began his public radio career as a student reporter at Tri States Public Radio in Macomb, Illinois and worked for a few years at Iowa Public Radio. Alex graduated summa cum laude from Western Illinois University with a degree in history and earned a teaching certificate in 6 - 12th grade social studies. In 2016, he earned a Master of Public Policy Administration with a focus in nonprofit organization management and leadership from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He has won local and national awards for reporting and producing and his stories have been featured nationally on Morning Edition and All Things Considered.
