MU to conduct drill at nuclear research reactor

MU Nuclear Research Reactor
University of Missouri

The University of Missouri will be conducting a drill Monday morning at its research nuclear reactor center. The center is located south of Stadium Boulevard and west of Providence Road in Columbia. The drill is meant to simulate what could happen during an emergency situation at the reactor.

According to an MU press release, the drill is required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The federal agency mandates facilities, like the reactor center, to carry out emergency preparedness drills every two years in conjunction with local authorities.

Some of the other groups participating include the Columbia Fire Department, MU Police and University Hospital. The university stresses that the events this morning are a drill, and not an actual emergency.
