The University of Missouri plans to test a new emergency alert system Monday morning.

A university press release states that the system will be tested at 8:50 a.m. and will send two text messages to those who have already signed up for the MU Alert system.

The test will also send messages to the MU Alert Twitter page, and to Facebook.

The university says the first test message is a test of the existing alert system, while the second is a test of a new emergency alert system. The new system is managed by Blackboard, an educational software company that already provides services to students and faculty.
