The University of Missouri Board of Curators announced Tuesday a series of alterations to the University’s Title IX regulations which are part of the Collected Rules and Regulations (CRRs). The new set of rules look to update policies in regards to sex discrimination, sexual harassment, misconduct, and student conduct procedures.

“Policies and procedures need to be in line with what the campus needs to do to best serve our students, faculty and staff,” said Linda Bennett, the MU Interim Title IX Coordinator.

One university official said the four campuses of the university look to set a precedent and stand as a model for many other campuses around the nation, making a step toward discrimination free and overall safe campuses.

“We don’t want to do merely what’s required in this difficult area,” said John Fougere, the University of Missouri system spokesperson. “We want to go beyond that and be a national example of excellence.”

According to the MU press release, significant revisions to the CRRs include:

·         Clarification of the university’s prohibitions against sex discrimination, sexual harassment and sexual misconduct which apply to students, employees, volunteers and visitors

·         Clarification of the definition of sex discrimination, making it consistent with current law and practices

·         Simplification of the requirements for reporters, making it easier and obligatory for any person of the university to report any information on sex discrimination to the Title IX coordinator
