Paul takes contentious St. Charles Co. caucus

On the day Rick Santorum dropped out of the presidential race, Ron Paul — not presumptive frontrunner Mitt Romney — has stolen the show at the do-over Republican caucus in one of Missouri's largest and most conservative counties.

St. Charles County Republicans reconvened Tuesday, weeks after the initial caucus was canceled after descending into chaos amid rules disputes and claims of favoritism.

Things went more smoothly. There were plenty of disagreements but things never turned chaotic.

It was Paul, not Romney, who drew support of the St. Charles County caucus-goers.

Slates of Paul supporters were picked for congressional district caucuses later this month and the statewide GOP convention in June.
