Problematic US horsemeat shows up in Europe

On this week’s show, we’ll hear about problematic US horsemeat showing up in Europe, and hear from one researcher about ways to convince people to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Every year, over 100,000 American horses are eaten abroad. We stopped slaughtering horses in this country five years ago. But since then, we export live horses to slaughterhouses in Mexico and Canada. From there, most of the meat goes to the European Union. But many American horses are also given drugs, drugs that people probably shouldn’t consume. In a story from Harvest Public Media and Latitude News, Jack Rodolico reports.

Also, Matt Martens is an associate professor of counseling psychology in the University of Missouri College of Education. He recently did a study that looked at how students could get back on track to a healthier lifestyle. KBIA’s Daina Schnese sat down with him to discuss his findings.
