Reporting on religion

According to a recent poll, two-thirds of Americans believe that media coverage of religion is too sensationalized. So how could journalists best cover the subject in a fair and balanced way? To find out, Global Journalist spoke to two journalists that have devoted years to the religion beat.

Tom Heneghan spent 25 years working for Reuters, where he reported from 30 countries. He now directs the news agency’s coverage of religion internationally.  He’s joined the show by telephone from Paris to talk about dynamics in reporting on religion.

Debra Mason directs the Center on Religion and the Professions housed in the Missouri School of Journalism, and is the Executive Director of the Religion Newswriters Association.

Rehman Tungekar is a former producer for KBIA, who left at the beginning of 2014.
