A Republican state lawmaker who lost his bid for St. Louis County executive by fewer than 1,700 votes said he may request a recount.
A spokesman for Rick Stream told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch (bit.ly/1tJOZl2 ) the campaign will first wait until results from the Nov. 11 vote are certified. The county elections board has until Nov. 18 to certify the election won by Democrat Steve Stenger, a County Council member.
Stream would then have 30 days to file for a recount, since he lost by less than 1 percent of the total vote.
Stenger won despite opposition from some black political leaders over his ties to prosecutor Bob McCulloch.
Protesters in Ferguson have been critical of McCulloch's role in the grand jury inquiry into the Michael Brown police shooting.
