Residents asked to give opinions on a proposed Columbia park

Boone County residents are being asked their opinions on a proposal for a new park. Columbia Parks and Recreation is proposing building a park in the 30-acres known as Jay-Dix Station in Boone County just southwest of Columbia. The funding for the $125,000 project was approved as part of a 2010 park sales tax approved by voters.

Columbia Parks and Recreation Department Director Mike Hood says this is something Columbia residents have been asking for.

“While we haven’t discussed this specific project because this is the first draft of the park plan, there have certainly been citizens that have expressed need for additional park facilities in that area,” Hood says.

Some proposed amenities for the park include a playground, basketball court, and three practice fields. Columbia Parks and Recreation is hosting a drop-in public input meeting this Thursday at Jay-Dix Station for residents to give their feedback.
