Second Trial Begins for Man Charged with Burning a Trailer with a Woman Inside

After the first trial ended in a hung jury in February, a second began Tuesday for a man accused of burning down a mobile home with a woman inside.

James Hall, 42, is charged with first-degree arson after being arrested in connection to a mobile home that burned down on Dec. 15, 2014.

After jury selection began Tuesday morning, opening statements in the afternoon provided conflicting views about the credibility of witnesses and the evidence provided.

Philip Groenweghe, a special prosecutor from St. Charles, said in his opening statement that all the testimony had been “independently verified,” while all the evidence was backed by experts. The evidence and testimony pointed toward Hall’s guilt, he said.
