Southeast Missouri State University students will pay more to live on campus next school year.
The Board of Regents voted Friday to increase housing costs by an average of 2.3 percent, resulting in an average cost of $8,353 a year.
The Southeast Missouri reports say one factor for the increased costs are higher dining services. The university's dining services, Chartwells, plans to spend $6.57 million to improve dining facilities during the next 10 years.
The regents also will allow students to use their dorm rooms during school breaks.
Deborah Below, vice president of enrollment management, says the rate increase will bring in an additional $84,000, which will be used to pay to staff residence halls during the breaks. Nearly 600 students stay on campus during the breaks.
