A Missouri judge has appointed a special prosecutor to review the deadly shooting of an armed suspect by a Boone County sheriff's deputy in a gunfight this year.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reports that Boone County prosecutor Dan Knight recused himself from the case because of his office's close relationship with the deputy involved in the fatal shooting.

Yesterday Circuit Judge Christine Carpenter appointed Callaway County prosecuting attorney Chris Wilson as special prosecutor.

The deputy shot the 28-year-old Cornelius Parker during a gunfight near Columbia after Parker shot three people, killing two. The deputy recently returned to regular duty after spending time on administrative duties.
