State Approves Permit for Cooper County CAFO

Several thousand more sows could be coming to mid-Missouri after the state approved a permit for a feeding operation in Cooper County Tuesday.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources approved a no-discharge permit for the Tipton East concentrated animal feeding operation, or CAFO, in Clarksburg, just northeast of the Moniteau County city of Tipton. The no-discharge permit requires the operation to contain pollutants, chiefly manure, which could make its way into water. In issuing the permit, the DNR Clean Water Commission said the Tipton East application satisfied clean water regulations.

Tipton East is owned by PVC Management II, an affiliate of Minnesota-based Pipestone Systems, a major pork producer.
