About two dozen Sarah Steelman supporters gathered last night at Alex's Pizza Palace, a favorite local hangout in Rolla. They hoped she would win the Republican US Senate nomination. But just after 10, Steelman conceded and threw her support behind US Representative Todd Akin. She said one plus to losing would be catching up on life at home."I haven’t been home hardly any at all so I got a lot of catching up to do," she said. "Lot of laundry. I don’t think there’s been food in the house for weeks."
Akin will face Claire McCaskell in November. Although Steelman says she will do what she can to support Akin, her fans say they aren’t sure if they will join her in backing Akin or not. Akin took 36 percent of the vote in the primary. Businessman John Brunner got 30 percent, Steelman 29 percent.
