Stephens College will be working with Theatre Reaching Young People and Schools (TRYPS) this April.

Stephens College announced Thursday it will be teaming with Theatre Reaching Young People and Schools (TRYPS), mid-Missouri’s acclaimed children’s theatre program.

On April 1 TRYPS will become “The TRYPS Institute at Stephens College.”  TRYPS will continue to run its camps, classes and productions for children, but will now also have classes and hands-on production and teaching opportunities for Stephens College Students.

Stephens College President, Dianne Lynch, said, “Together, the two programs will provide our students with extraordinary opportunities in children’s theatre, one of the fastest growing areas in professional theatre performance.”

In addition, TRYPS' new costume academy, Threads, will offer classes through Stephens’ School of Fashion and Design.

Executive Artistic Director of TRYPS, Jill Womack, thinks the collaboration will be extremely successful. “Adding TRYPS to such a glorious and powerhouse of theatre for our kids, from ages 10 months all the way through college now couldn’t be more exciting,” Womack said.

The first production of "The TRYPS Institute at Stephens College” will be “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” on April 4.
