Suspect in Jefferson City Double Homicide in Custody

Authorities have taken a suspect into custody after a Jefferson City double homicide Wednesday night.

Authorities were sent to the 100 block of Grant Street around 7:30 pm, where they found two victims suffering serious injuries consistent with a sharp object. The two victims, 27-year-old Ciera Kolb of Cole County and 27-year-old Micah Hall of Jefferson City, were sent to the hospital and were pronounced dead last night.

Authorities were following a number of leads when they found suspect Brandon Rapier in Riverside Park in Jefferson City on Thursday morning. He was injured and taken to the hospital. He is now in the custody of the Jefferson City Police Department

Public Information Officer Captain Doug Shoemaker for the Jefferson City Police Department said he expects authorities to file two charges against Rapier.

“It looks as though we’re going to have two charges of first degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon,” Captain Shoemaker said.

Authorities have not found a motive for the homicides yet. Captain Shoemaker said authorities’ first priority was to get the suspect in custody, and help the families of the victims, but the investigation is still ongoing.

“I doubt we’ll release any other information throughout the rest of the day or even the weekend,” Captain Shoemaker said. “As far as we’re concerned, we have him in custody and family has been notified for the victims, and obviously the chief and all the officers and detectives and all our staff really are just very distressed about what the families of the victims are going through at this point.”

Captain Shoemaker said the media played an important role in this investigation. Local media was important in distributing suspect information and images, as well as warning residents of potential dangers.

Captain Shoemaker also warns Missouri residents against believing what’s said on social media.

“I would caution everyone to make sure they’re very cautious with what they believe on social media posts, a lot of theories going around, people claiming to be family members,” Shoemaker said. “We will release facts as we can with regard to the investigation, not subjective points of view.”

Authorities will release more information as the investigation continues.
