Thinking Out Loud: Returned Peace Corps Volunteers Recall 1966 MU and Three Creeks Training

Sep 17, 2015

Trainees headed for service in the US Peace Corps train in their country of service. It's been that way for years. For two years in the late 1960s, however, the University of Missouri College of Agriculture hosted trainees on campus and at land that is now Three Creeks Conservation Area. On this episode of Thinking Out Loud, we hear memories from a group of men who trained for the US Peace Corps right here in Boone County.

In 1966, 100 young men and women gathered in Columbia for training as Peace Corps volunteers. Part of their training was held near the spring seen here in what is now Three Creeks Conservation Area. On this episode of KBIA's Thinking Out Loud, retired Columbia architect Martha John (seen above) discusses her memories of the training that happened on her family land almost 50 years ago.
