True/False Film Festival “March March” Parade Roars Down Ninth Street

Hundreds of people dressed in all sorts of attire as a part of the True/False Film Fest “March March” Parade Friday.

The general theme was “magic realism” according to parade director Ron Ribiat, a genre in which magic is considered to be a part of every day life. Parade goers took the opportunity to dress as magicians and wizards, several of which donned Harry Potter’s lightning bolt scar.

But there was no requirement to dress with the theme, so there were a myriad of different costumes and outfits. Costumes ranged from Teletubbies from Marching Mizzou’s drumline, to cows and pirates.

People also took to musical instruments as they strutted down the parade route, which started at Courthouse Square. The parade traveled down Ninth Street and ended at the Missouri Theatre, where the roads were blocked off completely so a block party could be held upon the completion of the parade.

People stretched all down Ninth Street to watch the parade from the sidewalk or from inside stores along Ninth Street. The highest number of viewers was at Ninth and Broadway, where people packed the intersection.

“March March” is the official start to the True/False Film Festival.

While the Festival started showing films as early as Wednesday, the main attraction is the weekend. Friday was the first full slate of films and the festival runs through Sunday, March 2.
