The University Press Week, hosted by the Association of American University Presses, started out with a bang on Monday when an anonymous donator gave the University of Missouri Press a 10-thousand dollar donation.
As a non-profit agency, the UM Press relies heavily on financial contributions to keep publishing books. Consulting director of the University of Missouri Press Jane Lago said donations are important for the University Press Week and the non-profit agency.
“This matching fund donation came from someone who’s been very supportive to the press and wanted to be able to do something to really help us to get back on our feet,” said Lago.
Administrators recently thought about shutting down the Press, but that changed when the publishing house was transferred to the MU campus. The University Press Week aims to promote the Press’ role in academic publishing.
